BMT Tax Depreciation are still open, operating and completing site inspections when possible.
BMT have always had the position that sending our specialist employees to complete a detailed site inspection is essential to achieve the highest possible deductions while maintaining full ATO compliance. Having evidence to support potentially thousands of dollars in deductions protects our clients and partner companies now and for many years into the future.
It is impossible to identify every depreciable asset, renovations and hidden expenditure like wiring, plumbing and extensions completed by previous owners without a thorough inspection completed by a specialist. Within the last three years, 66 per cent of properties with a BMT Tax Depreciation Schedule have undergone some form of renovation or addition. These properties contain significant deductions that go unidentified without a physical site inspection. Our aim is simply to get the claim as high as we possibly can while maintaining tax office compliance to protect property investors and their accountants. The most recent ATO data shows that BMT find each client on average $4,300 more than the average depreciation claim reported by the ATO.
This position is endorsed by the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and National Tax and Accountants' Association. Click here to read more.
Safety measures we have put in place
We are explaining the safety steps that we are taking to the occupants of every home and premises we inspect. Once this is clear we are finding that property occupants are working with us to ensure we are operating in the safest possible environment.
All occupants are asked:
- To open all doors and turn on lights during the inspection, so that the site inspector doesn’t need to touch anything
- About any symptoms and overseas travel prior to the inspection
Our site inspectors are:
- Carrying safety equipment including masks, gloves and hand sanitiser
- Adhering to social distancing rules
- Removing their shoes where possible
We also assure you that our site inspectors have not travelled overseas in the past fourteen days.
Any BMT staff member displaying flu like symptoms will be directed to seek medical advice and follow Government regulations which may include self-isolating for fourteen days.
Within some remote areas and government order lock down areas there will be some delay in completing the inspection. Both landlords and tenants are being updated on progress in these areas. Please bear with us in these difficult times.
Tax office compliance, the quality of our depreciation schedules and achieving the maximum cash return is more important than a quick turnaround time, however if you do need your schedule urgently please let us know.
Read our blog for more information on our site inspections.
Our focus over the coming months will be the health, safety and wellbeing of our customers and staff. If the COVID-19 situation and related government advice change we will adjust our operations immediately.
